My son starts in August and I am so excited! Of course it is only flag at that age which he is pretty sad about because he was looking foward to tackling people! Haha. Anyone here played football? If so when did you start and for how long did you play? Any serious injuries?

I never played organized because I had some lame chest condition when I was younger. I've played recreationally since I was 13 or 14, though.

I played for Pop Warner for 7th and 8th Grade. It's a lot of fun granted you don't have a fucking cunt-ass coach who cares more about winning a Pop Warner game than letting the kids have fun, like I had.
Be prepared for injuries at any time. I've seen it happen a lot. There are many things pads can't protect against. Do not for even a second not be prepared financially and emotionally for your kid getting hurt once he gets into tackle football, no matter how big or strong he may be. I've seen 6 foot tall powerhouses get their forarms snapped in half. I've seen bones through skin. I've seen concussions. I've seen at least 15 kids get taken off the field in ambulances in my 2 years.

Oh man, speaking of injuries...my town (Milltown) used to play our buddies in East Brunswick, a neighboring town. We did this for years (and won dozens of games to only one loss, by the way) in our local park. Anyway, this one game this kid Brian on their team was running a crossing pattern and got BLASTED in the face. His entire face around his one eye was just ripped open with blood pouring out. It was ridiculous. He ended up walking across the street to get some ice from a random house, and then finallly the rescue squad came. He didn't want to go to the hospital but because he was only 17 they had to bring him. Oof.

Well, I hope he does not like it too much. Perhaps he should go for ballroom dancing, art or something like that! I could not even handle him having to get a few stiches in his forehead...they had to send me out of the room! I would say thank you for scaring me but yous are being honest- that is what comes along with playing sports and I need to prepare myself for that.

Mine has tried soccer and martial arts so far. He is so looking foward to football. I took him ice skating for the first time last weekend and now there has been talk about hockey. Of course he seems to be interested in the roughest ones!
