It seems like a huge fraction of bands have a downfall and lose their original fanbase these days.

I say it every time. Bands have to evolve. Otherwise they become stale and boring.

What a coincidence! I don't know much about Mest, but MXPX used to be listenable and now they're complete shit. There are a lot of bands that have changed for the good and I will admit it, but AFI changed for the absolute worse. And no shit, it was to get on the radio, but if you listen to their old cds, and listen to this... it's pretty fucking ridiculous.

Dude, my point is MXPX and Mest never evolved. They've been putting out the same album over and over again and therefore became stale. Its not that mxpx is now complete shit, but it's all the same. its more redundant than anything.

and honestly, if you've been around as long as AFI has and you were presented with an opportunity to make more money and be heard by a bigger audience, wouldn't you take it? They've payed their dues, i think AFI deserves every penny they make.
