How would you guys rate a great champion?
Number of title reigns?
Great or memorable matches?
Longevity? Impact?
Or do you just assume its Ric Flair and be done with it?
Great and memorable matches
HHH negated the other two

for me its really just credibility
whether or not i buy the person as champion is most important
The perfect example for me (no pun intended) was Mr. Perfect as the IC Champ

HAHA, a "HHH ruined wrestling" joke. Man those never get old. Wait, yeah they do.
I'm going with Tex here. I just have to believe he could be a champ.
No dude, I never said HHH ruined wrestling - he's awesome, however, no one would say that he is a good champ because of his cheating ways - - - however, he does look, act, and wrestle like a champ.

Great or memorable matches?
This is the most important for me. Number of title reigns and longevity of title reigns is left up to the booker (although it might be affected by how good the matches are), while the matches are left up to the wrestlers. If a champ can go out there and defend the belt each night and give 110% and put on great matches, he's a great champion.
(it's Maniac)
HHH in 2000 was probably my favourite title run ever. Great matches, great character, the show was on a run, two great feuds (Foley, and a really underrated Rock feud), and a red hot heel manager (Steph, whether you like her or not, was really really over in 2000, and no just "XPac heat").
So yeah, a combination of those things.

That's all that needs to be said.

I've always hated HHH but I must admit that his 2000 title reign was quite something. The utter shock I was in when he retained at WM was just crazy...the heel actually came out on top and everybody was expecting rock to win that one. Although his title reigns now are just ridiculous.
Any of the hulksters late 80's-early 90's title reigns. I was a hulkamaniac back in the day.
Mr. Perfects IC reign.

Indy makes sense methinks. That was a classic period for wwe full stop.

I really dont think longevity or number of title reigns really count that much really.
Times change in wrestling and this encompases what the fans may want, Bob Backlund held the title for a ridiculously long period while other have held the title on 5 occasions or above for a greatly reduced period of time. You cant really plan one over the other, is Hogans 5 reigns as champ greater than Bob's 5 year reign? (or whatever the period was)
I definatly agree that the true defanition of a great champ can only be viewed by performances and such. Bret Hart had some truely awesome reigns as champion pulling great matches out of Diesel, Yokozuna and the like and the same could be said of HBK.
Anywho I would probably say some of the top champs have been
Hogan
Hart
HBK
Austin
HHH
Rock
There are many more to add especially from the WCW view of things but I didnt watch that product so I can't comment on that really.
