Anybody see that mass brawl? What the hell was going on there?
The punishments meted out were IMMENSE! Wonder if they would have been as severe if those pacers players hadnt attacked the fans?
i thought it was both shocking and hilarious, professional sportsmen losing their heads like that......its gonna cost Artest $5million bucks apparently, cos he got banned for the rest of the season.......
Wow.
It is about time someone stood up for the players.
I have seen first hand what some of these "fans" do. I'm not talking about the usual ridicule alot of fans say when they cheer on their team. I have heard NASTY things said to coaches and players. And the teams are told to have thickskins, and to ignore the overzealous fans.
This is absolutely crazy. Why should anyone be allowed to scream profane insults to anyone? Especially at a place where sportmanship is supposed to be involved.
My brother is a college basketball coach, and he is TORMENTED during games. Once it was so bad by the other teams own BAND! And it was allowed, I was livid and went to their athletic director only to be told it is considered part of the game. Encouraged even!!!
It is wrong, and while I don't think what Artest did wrong right, I understand why he did it. And if it helps to end this encouraged ridicule towards other teams I'm glad it happened.
Oh yeah and another thing... when people hurl their drinks at players and some one says" oh it is just a cup...how can that hurt an athlete?" know this...
Some of these assholes will piss in their cups in the bathroom then throw them.
Would you want that thrown at you?

fans get drunk and do stupid things. but sadly, theres just no solution. hell, i can see guys wanting to get a little liquored up while watching their team play, but doing that is just unreal.
overall, the brawl just showed: people take sports too far

As far as I'm concerned spending big bucks on sports tickets means you get to cheer, boo, and yell what you want at the players, coachces, whatever. You're getting paid MILLIONS of dollars to play a sport (at least at the pro level), you can handle somebody taunting you for an hour or two.
When people start throwing shit or coming out onto the court, that's when the line is crossed. If somebody runs out onto the court or field or whatever, they need to be taken off immediately. If they start running away from security, then a player has the right to step in and pop 'em.
Well since Ron Artest wanted time off to promote his rap video, hes got it now

Im thinking some of our soccer bosses should be looking at those kind of punishments given the racist abuse dished out to England players, and a spate of similar brawls on the pitch in the last few months.

Personally, I would have given ALL of the Pacers that went into the crowd for a beat-down a season-suspension. AND to Ben Wallace for starting the whole mess.
Oh well, that sound you hear is the Indiana Pacers championship hopes going down the tubes.

Sports should have more brawls. Eric Cantona flying kicks into the crowd == awesome (gah. Programming sucks donkey)
Extra points should be awarded for taking out people in burberry baseball caps.
