So, it's that time of year when everyone is dishing out awards left, right and centre. Let's keep it nice and simple here, your favourite 3 films of the year.

- Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind (Jim Carrey has only had, I think, three 'serious' roles, and for the third time he hits one out of the park. A brilliant concept and a highly enjoyable film, probably the most original film of the year. For all the brilliance of the concept at writing though, it's gotta be Kate Winslet that steals the show as the ideal girlfriend (particularly impressive to me as I've been out with someone very similar who was very annoying but I loved Clementine in this). For a lot of people, including me, this is the film that should win Best Film at the Oscars, but it's not Oscar-y enough. Should win Best Original Screenplay though and Kate Winslet is a sure thing for an acting award.)

- Lost in Translation (I think this might class as 2003 in America but it was released in 2004 over here so it still counts. This now registers as one of my absolute - top 3 - favourite films ever, and shoots Toyko to #1 on my list of places I'd love to visit. Bill Murray was robbed of the Best Actor Oscar, (particularly when you consider they gave it to the weaker of Sean Penns two nominated performances), and this has got to be his greatest performance ever, even beating Groundhog Day. Charlotte Johansson is adorable in ways I never thought she could be. The only film this year that I literally wanted to watch it again as soon as the credits came on.)

- Troy (Tough call here, as there were lots of good films this year, but as I've yet to see what I think in time would be #3 (Finding Neverland) Troy just pips The Incredibles onto the list. I'm often a bit bored by 'Historical Epics', but I was gripped by this and thought it had the right mix of politics/history and all out action. When me and my friends went to see this, we were all on a high afterwards, and thats what seeing films is all about .

I'll agree with Lost in Translation, but i'll say 21 grams runs it very, very close. And just because it was way, way better than i expected, Spiderman 2.

spiderman 2 for me, no doubt

I really can't see why Spiderman 2 is as popular as it is. I'll admit that the last half hour was spectacular, but the rest was incredibly boring and just didn't go anywhere. And the first one wasn't really that good either. I think there's a difference between a film being good and a film being cool.

Eternal Sunshine was by far the best movie of the year... actually, it's one of the best movies I've ever seen.

Runner-up goes to the American release of Hero, that movie was completely amazing. I had little to no expectations for it, and it ended up being one of the most powerful films of all time, in my opinion.

I still haven't seen Finding Neverland, however. I should be seeing it either this Tuesday or Wednesday, and that very well might jump up to #3, especially since there's no real clear-cut #3 for me yet.

Hero was amazing. I can't wait for the House of Flying Daggers or whatever it's called.

i haven't seen hero but ALL of my friends said it wasn't too good. i mean you know i cant say till i see it, but...

i thought spiderman 2 was spectacular. the first one definately stands above it in my opinion, though.

Your friends were expecting another "Kill Bill" because it had QT's name attached to it. He had NOTHING to do with the making of this movie, he just arranged for it to be sent overseas.

Garden State. I'd bathe in Natalie Portman's bath water if I wasn't such a germ freak.

Well I don't know if that's the best movie that was made in 04 that I've seen but it was pretty fuckin' good. Good soundtrack to. Let's see what else did I see...

Damnit I don't know. Lost in translation was last year here in the states so it's out of the running, I just have no intrest in spiderman, I didn't think Kill Bill was that great, and I don't like any of those kung fu japanesian movies. I'll think of some more later.

Yeah I'm really looking forward to Garden State. Natalie Portman is supposed to look fantastic in it.

And Shek, in all honesty pal, Hero wasn't really made for fourteen year olds.

My favourite film of the year is Spider-man 2.. I just thought it was brilliant, much better than than the first.. just a great film, has it all.

2nd Fav is Shaun of the Dead - nearly the top film of the year, absolutely loved it.

3rd.. erm.. I liked The Butterfly Effect, it had its faults.. and plot holes - but I just really enjoyed it. So that'll do it.

All I saw this year is Napolean Dynamite, and I liked that a lot, so that'll have to be it.

Rev. ScHiZo's Top 7 Films of 2004

1. Hellboy - It's not as action-packed as some Superhero movies, but Ron Perlman was perfectly cast as Hellboy and it's very faithful to the comics.

2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - I related to this movie way more than I wanted to.

3. Kill Bill, vol.2 - Almost as good as vol. 1, but in a much different way. Can't wait for "Kill Bill: Fusion" in theatres next year!

4. Jersey Girl - Eh, I'm a whore for Kevin Smith.

5. The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra - I'm probably the only one that saw this great parody of chessy '50s monster movies. You can probably find it in a video store.

6. Spider-Man 2 - It's great, would be a lot better if they would of re-cast Kirsten Dunst.

7. Saved! - I like a movie with Mandy Moore in it... but more importantly Eva Ammurri, the daughter of Susan Sarandon.

Why only 7?... it was a pretty weak year for films. I see a lot of movies, nothing was THAT great this year.
