I'm sorry, but there is a ton of movies that are praised, and concidered great films that actually suck ass beyond reality. Here are a few examples.

Scarface
All 3 LOTRs
Rounders
Boondock Saints (however you spell it)
The Usual Suspects
Reservoir Dogs
Rocky
The last 2 Matrix's
St Elmos Fire
All of The Godfather movies

What are yours?

Oh, and any movie with Julia Roberts in it.

I don't think anyone (that's not retarded) would actually call Boondock Saints a "great movie". It's prett stupid, and not executed very well... but it is fun, so I love it.

Scarface (the 80s remake) is severely overrated in my opinion. I don't think it sucks, but it's a "high average" movie at best.

I love the LotR movies. The third one is quite a bit weaker than the others, mainly due to the ridiculous 7-hour ending, but it's still very good.

Rounders is fucking awesome. It's not the greatest movie of all-time or anything, but it's the kind of movie I can watch over and over and never get tired of.

The Usual Suspects is a movie I like a lot, but I think a bit too much is made of it. I think it's like number 16 or something on the IMDB top 250 list, which is just fucking crazy.

Reservoir Dogs is one of my all-time favorite movies. Like most of Tarantino's movies I thought it was alright the first time I saw it, but fell in love with it the second time. If you've only seen it once, I'd suggest just giving it one more shot.

Rocky... I haven't seen Rocky since I was a kid, so I don't think I could really say... I liked it as a kid, but I don't know if it will hold up.

Matrix Reloaded was so fucking horrible that I didn't even bother with the third movie... which is a shame because I think the original and tha Animatrix both rule.

The Godfather movies... I still have yet to see Godfather 3. I like the first two a lot, and I think they are definitely great films. Are they personal favorites of mine that I've seen a shitload of times? No, but they are great movies.

I usually skip Julia Roberts movies... but Closer was one of the best movies released in 2004.

Movies that I think blow that are supposedly great...

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Just horrible. I was so upset when I watched this, and I'm totally into Asian cinema.

Spider-Man. Complete junk. I saw it like six times and tried to like it everytime... but the things that I don't like about it I just hate too much. I don't mind cheesiness and campiness to a degree, but campiness like in this movie drives me fucking bonkers. No one really considers this a "great film" though.

The American Astronaut is horrible. It's one of those movies that art house people love, that I will never figure out the reason for. One of the most boring, shitty, overrated indy movies ever.

I'm sure there are a ton more... but I'm hungry, so I'm getting something to eat.

Lost in Translation was good, but that is another movie that far too much was made of.

All of those LOTR movies.
Spiderman
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.
Closer
Italian Job
Lost in Translation- that's not to say I hated the movie because I didn't, but it's nothing that really stood head and shoulders above the rest.

"All 3 LOTRs"

Agreed. They put me to sleep.

"The Usual Suspects"

People actually like that?

"Reservoir Dogs"

I liked it, but it's definately overrated.

"The last 2 Matrix's"

All three for that matter. Well, actually I thought the second one was okay, because I don't go to a Matrix movie for storyline. I went for the action, and Reloaded was chock full. At least good enough for a username...

I'm gonna add A Clockwork Orange. I really have no idea how that movie is some cult classic.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was also one of the best movies of 2004!

The action in the second Matrix was horrible an uninspired! In almost every scene they emphasized how simple everything was for Neo or the other fighters. His fight with the Asian guy before seing the oracle? Robotic and boring. The fight with 1,000 Smiths? So fucking boring. It was like an old "WWF Superstars" squash match. Even though the Smiths seemed never ending, I never even felt like Neo was in any danger at all. He just whooped their asses for the whole fight. My emotional investment in these fights was nill. The only good action sequence in that entire shitty movie was Morpheous fighting that agent on top of the truck.

I actually have never seen Clockwork Orange (GASP!), but I am a Kubrick fan. I really need to just watch this.

And Dimebag... if you don't like Titanic, that's fine... that's your opinion... but come on, simplifying it to "I mean it a movie about a boat that eventually sinks" is sort of ridiculous. There is certainly more to it.

If I wanted to I could make Rocky or Reservoir Dogs seem as simple.

I think 2001: A space Odyssey is really overrated. And I'm a HUGE Kubrick fan...

Titanic was pretty tight. It had a great little love story and all that ship sinkage kicked some serious ass.

Eturnal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was great. It was a break from all the normality of movies. Kauffman (I doubt I spelled that correctly) seems to be one of the only directors left that tries to make original movies that break the mold.

Tit-tanic sucked. Fucking foggy windows...

Just because a movie is different doesn't automatically make it great.

No, it doesn't, but Eturnal Sunshine was great, in my opinion, of course. The originality of the movie did score points for me, though.

It just didn't do it for me. I didn't hate it or anything but I didn't think it was anything special.

Charlie Kaufman isn't a director!

He's a screenwriter.
