I posted this stuff over on another board... I know that at lease Sheck might be into these two YSIs, so I'm posting them here.

There are things on these YSIs that are not available on the commercial soundtrack.

This is not New Wave and it sounds pretty much nothing like Oingo Boingo.

Four and a half stars

Movies don't get more out there than the 1980 cult classic Forbidden Zone (which starred the late Herve Villechaize of Fantasy Island fame), so it shouldn't come as much of a shock that the motion picture soundtrack by Danny Elfman is in the same peculiar vein. While the music was performed by Elfman's band at the time, Oingo Boingo, it was all composed by Elfman himself. While some of the music can be compared to '90s experimental rockers Mr. Bungle (Elfman must have been an obvious influence for them), most of it is so off the wall that it's incomparable to anyone else. The anthemic lead-off title track is the soundtrack's undeniable highlight, while the rest of the songs alternate widely between genres. Styles include originals that sound straight out of the '40s ("Some of These Days," "Yiddishe Charleston," "Bim Bam Boom"), warped children's songs ("Alphabet Song"), chants ("Flash and Gramps") and short synthesized instrumentals ("Chamber Music," "Journey Through the Intestines," "Factory"). Weird but brilliant stuff.

The final track is the longer version of "The Forbidden Zone" that doesn't appear on the official soundtrack. I recorded it straight from the DVD.

"Pico and Sepulva" and "La Petite Tonkinoise" were not included on the official sountrack either, but appeared in the movie. They are included here.

The version of "Some Of These Days" that appears in the official soundrack is not quite the same as the version from the movie. There are some vocals missing. I will probably record that version of the song in a few days. For some reason, only Cab Calloway's vocals are on this version.

Tracks 1-11 above are numbered in their filenames in such a way that if you move the files into the same folder as the original YSI they will just fall into place where they belong. I ripped all 11 of these songs from the DVD. They actual make up 13 minutes and 44seconds of music that did not make it to the official soundtrack. I made up the names for the songs.

Track 12 is "Some Of These Days" as it actually appears in the movie, with the first minute of the song having vocals in it. The version of the song that appeared on the soundtrack ommitted these vocals for some reason, but included the weird guys making sounds at 1:50.

Track 13 is "Minnie The Moocher" by Cab Calloway which is what "Squeezit the Moocher" was based on, and track 14 is the original unaltered version of Cab Calloway's "Some of These Days" as he recorded it.





So there you go. Now, if you want to be a huge nerd like me, there are seven small changes that can be made to the original yousendit. I'm just suggesting these because I think it works out better this way.

Re-number the filename on "21 pico & sepulveda.mp3" as "07.2 - pico & sepulveda.mp3" and re-number "22 josephine baker - la petite tonkinoise.mp3" as "19.2 - josephine baker - la petite tonkinoise.mp3". These two songs were not on the official soundtrack, so they were just thrown onto the end. They actually make more sense appearing within the album.

And then lastly, there are five tags that could use fixing. For example, I did not realize that on the YSI there are two songs with the same name, that actually were supposed to have extra notes on them.

So, throw all of the files into winamp and then edit the tags on the following tracks so that they match what's below.
